Fake NGOs will be blacklisted: Sakina

Asks Dir SWD to prepare list



Srinagar, Aug 20: Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo on Tuesday directed Director Social Welfare department Farooq Ahmad Khan to prepare a list of fake Non-Governmental Organisations in the state so that they would be blacklisted.
 This direction was passed on to the director SWD during a meeting of representatives of various NGOs with Sakina.
 “Director Social Welfare will collect the details of all the NGOs in order to segregate genuine and fake NGOs. Genuine ones would be encouraged while fake ones blacklisted,” she added.
 She said every effort was being made by the Government to improve the life of the disabled, adding that various schemes launched across the State for the welfare of this section of the society need to be extended to every such person. "Government is aware about their problems," she said, adding that an Expert Committee, apart from the State level Coordination Committee, stands already set up to look into the problems.
 Stressing for strict implementation of the Act, she said that Expert Committee has to play its role in order to mitigate the sufferings of this section of the society.
 Sakina asked Secretary, Social Welfare to re-examine the Expert Committee and submit a detailed report after taking a meeting with the members of the Committee so that matter is taken up with the Chief Minister and subsequently put before the Cabinet for approval.
 Meanwhile, Sakina handed over cheques amounting to Rs 25 lakhs as grant in aid to Chairman J&K Yateem Foundation Muhammad Rafiq Lone at an awareness camp sponsored by J&K State Rehabilitation Council.
  The amount will be utilized for expanding and completing the ongoing construction work of two orphanages run by J&K Yateem foundation. The Minister handed over a Cheque of Rs 10 Lakh for Baitul Hilal, Chawalgam Kulgam and another Cheque of Rs 15 lakh for Baitul Hilal, Hudri Kishtwar to the Chairman
